You can begin filling your 2025 taxes on January 26.
 
 The IRS is phasing out paper refund checks so they will be paying primarily by direct deposit or some other electronic method.
 
 You can, however, still pay your taxes with a paper check, though electronic methods are advised.
 
 The fastest way to get your refund is to file early and electronically.
 
 Most refunds are paid within 21 days.
 
 Apply for an identity protection PIN to prevent identity theft.
 
 PINS are good only for one year so you can’t use last year’s when you file your 2025 return.
