A 20 minute Good Fit call. No charge.
You tell us what is on your mind. We ask some questions. This call is about one thing, which is whether we are a good match for each other.
-
We ask to see your paperwork.
If the call goes well, we ask you to send your account statements, your last tax return, your Social Security estimate, any insurance policies and your trust if you have one. We give you a checklist so nothing gets missed.
-
We tell you yes or no.
We look at what you sent and we give you a straight answer about whether we are the right firm for you. Sometimes the answer is no. If it is, we will say so and point you toward someone better suited. We would rather tell you that now than take you on and do a middling job.
-
We move your accounts over.
If we both want to go ahead, we open accounts for you at Charles Schwab and transfer your investments. We handle the paperwork and we walk you through every form. Your money stays in your name the entire time. We never hold it, and you can log in and see it whenever you want.
-
We build your plan.
Now the real work starts. We build one plan covering your income, your taxes, your investments, your care risk and your estate. Then we sit down and go through it with you page by page. Bring your spouse. Bring your questions. Bring a notepad.
The plan is not something you buy separately. It is part of what we do for you as your advisor, and it is built on your actual accounts rather than on estimates.
-
We keep it current.
Plans go stale. Tax laws change, markets move, and life happens. We meet with you regularly to update the plan and keep you on track.
You also get a short economic and market update by email every week. It is a few minutes on what happened and what it means. It is not a forecast and it is not a sales pitch. It is there so that when the news gets loud, you have somewhere calm to check.
What It Costs
We are a fee-based firm.
That is not the same as fee-only.
For the planning and investment work we do, we charge an ongoing fee based on the amount of money we manage for you. It is billed quarterly and comes out of your account.
You will never get a surprise.
Before you sign anything, we will show you exactly what you are paying and how we are paid.
Our full fee schedule and our conflicts of interest are described in our Form ADV and our Form CRS. We will hand you both at our first meeting, and you can read them any time.
Who We Work With
We work with households that have at least $1 million to invest.
That is not a judgment about anyone. It is about doing this well. We keep our client list small on purpose so that you get Karl and Jamie on the phone instead of a call center, and so that every plan gets the hours it needs.
If you are close to that number, call us anyway. And if we are not the right fit, we will tell you on the first call and point you toward someone who is.
