What is Long-Term Care?
No one likes to think about themselves needing help when we get old.
With the advances in medicine and nutrition, however, we are living longer.
And that means our chances of needing help are increased.
Short-term care and long-term care are treated differently in our healthcare system.
Short-term care is medically necessary care.
This is covered by Medicare and your health insurance.
Long-term care is NOT medically necessary care.
It is care that you need to help you with the activities of daily living for 90 days or more.
The activities of daily living (ADLs) are bathing, continence, dressing, eating, toileting and transferring.
The assistance you may need could be intermittent or continuous.
It’s best to start planning as soon as possible.
