Your 2027 Social Security Raise

The numbers are in. Social Security benefits will go up 3.6% in 2027.

That’s the biggest raise in four years. It’s also well above last year’s 2.5% bump.

For the average retiree getting about $2,095 a month, that works out to around $75 more per month.

Not life changing, but every bit helps.

So why the bigger raise this year?

It all comes back to higher prices. The cost of just about everything went up this year.

A lot of that was from the high oil prices tied to the fighting in Iran.

When prices go up, your Social Security raise goes up too.

Here’s the catch though.

Medicare Part B premiums are also expected to climb next year.

So some of that raise will get eaten up before it ever hits your bank account.

There’s another thing worth watching.

Healthcare costs for retirees have been rising about 5.8% a year.

That’s a lot faster than the 3.6% raise.

So even with a bigger check, your dollars still have to stretch further.

The new benefit shows up on your January 2027 check.

Keep an eye out for the letter from Social Security in December telling you your exact new amount.

You can also see it online in your My Social Security account if you have one set up.
