Protect Yourself From Tax Fraud

The April 26, 2023 edition of the LA Times writes about how Glendale Unified School District employees were unable to file their taxes this year.

The district had a computer breach in December and the thieves used the personal information of employees to file fraudulent tax returns.

It takes months and a lot of work to get this resolved.

To help prevent this from happening to you, we suggest getting an Identity Protection Pin (IP PIN) from the IRS.

This is a secure six-digit number that must be used when filing your tax return.

It prevents someone else from filing a tax return using your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

You can apply for an IP PIN here

A new PIN is generated each year for your account.

Make sure to give your tax preparer your new PIN every year.
